Stay Warm on the Water

Cooler weather doesn’t mean an end to your SUP season on the water. There are a variety of companies that cater to the adventure seeking soul who lets nothing stand in his or her way. You’ve got options. From the traditional wetsuit down to thermo board shorts, base layers and booties. Pick what’s best for you and extend your SUP and SUP yoga season.

Traditional wetsuits are great for racing, recreational paddling, and even stand up paddleboard (SUP) yoga, but they can be somewhat restricting. Wetsuits are designed to guard the skin against environmental conditions; this means they have to be tight. If you can’t do tight then you’re going to have to explore a non-traditional wetsuit like thermo boardshorts and a wetsuit jacket or vest (even then it still is going to be a little tight). Separate wetsuit pieces are convenient…and a little bit amazing because you can mix and match wetsuit tops and bottoms. There are also thermo base layers that provide additional warmth on those cooler days. The other way to get the best of both worlds is to pair a wetsuit jacket with thermal athletic pants and booties or vice versa. This is a great option for SUP Yoga because you’re staying warm and you can move with greater ease than a traditional, one-piece wetsuit. The booties are truly a great addition. They help grip the board and this gives some people a greater sense of security.
